ScoreTune

Faster page turns.
More room on your iPad.

Most scans carry more resolution than your iPad can show, which slows page turns. ScoreTune brings it down to suit your screen. Your music still looks sharp, and your markings stay put.

Why scores turn slowly

Your iPad is drawing detail it cannot show

A scanned page is a picture made of pixels, and many scans hold far more of them than an iPad screen can display. Your iPad still has to work through every one of them each time you turn the page. Older iPads feel it most, and on a heavy page your pencil can trail behind as you write.

ScoreTune redraws each page at about the resolution your screen can show. Pages turn faster, scores take less room, and your music still looks sharp.

600 PPI scan On screen about 250 PPI
  • Every pixel in a page scanned at 600 PPI
  • What an iPad screen can show of that page: about 250 PPI on the largest iPads, less on smaller ones

What it does

Four tools, one job each

  • Slowest

Finds the scores that turn slowly and lowers their resolution to match your screen.

  • Biggest

Finds the scores that take the most room on your iPad and makes them smaller.

  • Split pages

Divides sheets with two pages side by side into single pages. Nothing is split until you tap Split.

  • Scans

Photograph paper music and save it as a score. Photograph an open book, and ScoreTune offers to split the double pages before you save.

ScoreTune lowers resolution to suit your screen. It does not make blurry scans sharper.

How it works

From forScore and back again

  1. Find the slow ones

Choose forScore’s folder once, and ScoreTune checks your library for scores that turn slowly or take the most room. Checking changes nothing. You can also share one score from forScore, add one from Files, or scan paper music.

  2. Optimize

Compare a score before and after, then optimize it. The original is kept in Backups, so you can always go back.

  3. Send it back

Send the score to forScore. ScoreTune updates it only after checking it is the same score, so your markings stay where they were.

Peace of mind

Made for scores you have spent years marking

  • Your markings stay put

forScore keeps markings separately from the score itself, so updating the score underneath leaves every marking where it was.

  • Your originals are kept

Every original is saved in Backups. ScoreTune never deletes them on its own.

  • Nothing changes until you send

Checking and optimizing never touch your forScore library. A score there changes only when you send it back.

  • Your music stays on your iPad

Optimizing, splitting and scanning happen on your iPad. ScoreTune does not upload your scores, and it has no ads or tracking.

Questions

Will I lose my markings?

No. forScore keeps markings separately from the score itself, so updating the score underneath leaves them exactly where they were. ScoreTune updates a score in forScore only after checking it is the same score. When you share a score from forScore, choose PDF rather than Annotated PDF.

If a score’s pages change, for example when it is split into single pages, ScoreTune asks whether it is marked before sending, and can add it beside your marked copy, which stays as it is.

What exactly changes when I optimize a score?

Two things can change. A score scanned at a very high PPI is redrawn at about the PPI your iPad screen can show, which is what makes pages turn faster. A score already at a sensible PPI keeps it. And Best Optimization turns each page into pure black and white, which makes the score much smaller. Every page stays, in the same order, and your original stays in Backups until you clear it.

Pencil that was scanned as part of the page comes through when it is dark, but very faint pencil can fade in black and white. If that matters, or your score has markings in color, choose Best Optimization (keeps color) and check the preview before you send it.

Does it only help in forScore?

No. Optimized scores open and turn faster in Files, Books and any other PDF reader on your iPad. Older iPads notice the difference most, since a heavy page costs them more to begin with.

Does anything leave my iPad?

Optimizing, splitting and scanning happen on your iPad. ScoreTune does not upload your scores to a server for processing, and it has no ads, analytics or tracking. Buying or restoring the unlock and opening web links may use the internet. You choose when to send or share scores or a support report. If you keep scores in a cloud service such as iCloud Drive, it may sync them according to your settings.

Does ScoreTune make blurry scans sharper?

No. ScoreTune lowers resolution to suit your screen. It cannot add detail that a scan never captured, though a gray, uneven page can come out cleaner in black and white.

Which iPads does it work on?

Any iPad with iPadOS 17 or later.

I got a new iPad. Do I pay again?

No. Open ScoreTune on the new iPad and choose Restore purchase. The unlock belongs to your Apple ID, not to the iPad.

Is ScoreTune made by forScore?

No. ScoreTune is an independent app made by violinist Doori Na. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by forScore, LLC.
